History accounts for a lot
Our History
From humble beginnings, through wins and losses, earthquakes and plane accidents, acquisitions and mergers, DFK Crosbie, one of Newcastle’s oldest and most trusted accounting firms has stood the test of time and built its success story over many years, and is extremely proud of its history.

Looking back there’s been many changes since 1964, when founding partner Stan McLean, then 26yo and Des Curran 22yo, won a 500 pound lottery and decided to use the winnings to start an accounting practice called McLean Curran & Co. With just four employees, the firm grew and became George, Warren, Crosbie & Sinclair in 1978.
In 1982 the company went through a tragedy when Partner Denis Parkinson and former Partner Des Curran were killed in a plane crash, along with Bruce Turnbull (father of Malcolm Turnbull MP, then just 20yo) and pilot Bill Ford en route to transfer ownership of a hotel.
Some years later, nature struck again with the Newcastle earthquake destroying the back wall of the Mayfield office in 1989.
The company’s name was changed to Crosbie Warren Sinclair in 1992 and in 1993 the three offices in Mayfield, Charlestown and Raymond Terrace were merged into one office at Warabrook with 45 employees.
In 2005 the growing Wealth Management division acquired a Sydney based Financial Services company and a Sydney office. A Gold Coast acquisition followed in 2010, adding more staff and a better service to Queensland clients.
In 2013 MyAccountants on the Gold Coast merged with the Crosbie team and at the end of 2013, after reviewing the company brand they updated their brand image. At the same time the opportunity arose to become affiliated with DFK Australia and New Zealand, an international network of independent accountants and business advisers. Their name changed to DFK Crosbie, with Crosbie Wealth Management and Crosbie Finance.
The DFK Crosbie Gold Coast office was sold in 2017.
From a company that started with just four employees in 1964, this has now grown to over 90 employees.
Today DFK Crosbie remains a team of highly motivated individuals who are committed to delivering exceptional services to its growing and loyal client base. We pride ourselves on being something both different and quite special, an accounting and business advice firm that offers unparalleled expertise and experience in a way that reflects the people who, over time, have contributed to the firm’s growth.
They are the accountants and business advisers with a human touch, something that has been in their DNA now for over 56 years.
